Agreements

The Islands Trust preserves and protects the Islands Trust Area in cooperation with First Nations, other levels of government, and agencies.

There are generally three main types of agreements:

  • Protocol Agreements: Agreements that Trust Council or a local trust committee (LTC) enters into with First Nations and other government agencies or organizations at a political level.
  • Letters of Understanding: Agreements that the Chief Administrative Officer enters into with other agencies at an administrative level and are endorsed by Trust Council or a LTC.
  • Memorandum of Agreement: Agreements that Trust Council, Islands Trust Conservancy Board or a LTC enters into with another corporate entity of the Islands Trust at a political level.

Note that on May 31, 2018, the former Islands Trust Fund and Trust Fund Board legally became the Islands Trust Conservancy through an amendment to the Islands Trust Act.

Transitional provisions ensure the legal continuity of the Trust Fund Board in all bylaws and agreements. Moving forward, all legal agreements and bylaws will reflect the name change.
