The Islands Trust preserves and protects the Islands Trust Area in cooperation with First Nations, other levels of government, and agencies.
There are generally three main types of agreements:
- Protocol Agreements: Agreements that Trust Council or a local trust committee (LTC) enters into with First Nations and other government agencies or organizations at a political level.
- Letters of Understanding: Agreements that the Chief Administrative Officer enters into with other agencies at an administrative level and are endorsed by Trust Council or a LTC.
- Memorandum of Agreement: Agreements that Trust Council, Islands Trust Conservancy Board or a LTC enters into with another corporate entity of the Islands Trust at a political level.

Transitional provisions ensure the legal continuity of the Trust Fund Board in all bylaws and agreements. Moving forward, all legal agreements and bylaws will reflect the name change.
